pressure: the force applied perpendicular to a surface......lol. Pardon me people, I just had to
define the word.
So I was thinking recently, and it occurred to me that for the most part of my life, i have been under one form of pressure or another. Some I might not have known were 'pressures of life', permit me my people to use that phrase. Infact, as long as you are a still breathing, you have encountered and overcame many pressures of life. You doubt?..., well let me school you then on the pressures of life.
You encountered the very first pressure of life before you were born. OK, not you directly, your parents. This I will call the pressure to be born, AKA 'anything yet?' (In the voice of in laws and family members to newly weds), e don happen?, when we go come drink?, when are you getting pregnant?
Now the good Lord has done it, your parents are now pregnant, first pressure of life ticked. Your mother gives birth to a bouncing baby you. And then, you begin to encounter subsequent pressures of life directly: pressure to sit, pressure to crawl, pressure to stand, pressure to walk, pressure to talk...peewh, poor you will be thinking 'na wa ooo, this life hard'. Lol.
And it goes on and on, pressure to do well in school, you must carry first in your class because the boy/girl who carries first nor get 2 heads. There is the pressure to graduate from high school in record time (heavens forbid you repeat a class), pressure to pass the university entrance exam and gain admission into a higher institution. Now that you are in the university, you would think the pressures will reduce, but lie lie. Now you are faced with pressure to graduate with good grades as this will help you to land a good job.
After graduation, there is the pressure to get a job, pressure to take care of your parents and younger siblings, pressure to dress well and wear good cloths (yes oo, my people, there is pressure in that too), you can't allow your friend Yemi to 'dress more than you na', abi how you check am?
Then the almighty one: pressure to marry. At this point, let me state that both sex face this pressure, but it seems to be worse with the female sex. Sister when is the date?, when we go come chop rice?, when we go wear your asoebi?, some people will even outrightly asked you 'is he the one?' when they see you and a member of the opposite sex together. Smh for them.
After marriage, you go back to the first pressure, 'anything yet?'
So you see, this life is filled with pressures at each stage. My resolve? Live life, enjoy life, hoping and believing that God will help you to fulfill destiny. Because really, you can't please everybody.
